Answer:
I included an excerpt from a pretty informative web site below. It's a common misconception that the pain you experience after a rigorous workout is all due to lactic acid buildup.
Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) after a workout is quite common and quite annoying, particularly if you are just beginning an exercise program or changing activities. For the new exerciser who wakes up one day and goes a three mile walk, followed by push-ups and sit-ups, there is bound to be some muscle pain and soreness the next day or two. This is a normal response to unusual exertion and is part of an adaptation process that leads to greater stamina and strength as the muscles recover and build. The soreness is generally at its worst within the first 2 days following the activity and subsides over the next few days.
What Is the Treatment for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness?
- Wait. Soreness will go away in 3 to 7 days with no special treatment.
- Avoid any vigorous activity that increases pain.
- Do some easy low-impact aerobic exercise - this will increase blood flow to the affected muscles, which may help diminish soreness.
- Use gentle stretching on the affected area
- Gently massage the affected muscles,
- Try using a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications to reduce the soreness temporarily, though they won't actually speed healing.
- There is some evidence that performing Yoga may reduce DOMS.
- Allow the soreness to subside thoroughly before performing any vigorous exercise.
- Don't forget to stretch and warm up before your targeted activity.

Obviously, if the pain does not subside within a few days you should consult a physician. Good luck.
Did you stretch out/cool down. Try taking a hot bath. It happens to me all the time.

Take care x
go to bed! it is due to the release of lactic acid in the muscles telling you ya need oxygen go to bed and rest!
I tell you how i know partying last night due to my prom night! legs ached once i got in bed it was ok

REST!
Rest! Always make sure to have a day to rest between strength workouts. This actually improves your muscle!
If the pain is really bothering you, you may take a pain reliever (always follow the recommended amount)
Taking warm or slightly hot (but comfortable) baths with relaxing bath beads often help as well.
If you are still sore in three days you should consult with your doctor.
lay down for a couple of minutes close your eyes and think about good things it will help.

you go girl keep working out!
Ibuprofen (Motrin) or Naproxen (Aleve) if you are not allergic to this medicine. A hot bath. Gentle stretching.
You can take a warm with with some Epsom Salts in it. You can get Epsom Salts pretty cheap from Wal-mart or any other store. Just sprinkle a bit in the warm bath water. Then, soak in the water. You may want to moisturize by putting lotion on afterwards, since the salt can dry your skin out at times. Also, you can read on the package from the Epsom Salts and it tells about compresses you can make for sore muscles. You need to drink lots of water so it can help to flush out the toxins that are built up in your muscles from the workout. If you can get someone to give you a massage on your sore muscles and then drinking water afterwards for a while, it will really help to flush out that nasty toxins. For future references, always make sure you do a warm up before working out and a cool down after the warm up and stay hydrated. If you stay laid up now, you will be very sore tomorrow and stiff. You need to stretch and massage the muscles. Hope this helps. Hope you feel better soon!
